| The historic city of Beijing has long been China’s political and cultural centre. On day 2 we will bring you to explore some of Beijing’s greatest sights: first to the massive Tiananmen Square, where Chairman Mao declared the founding of People’s Republic of China before 3 million onlookers in 1949. Next, we will stroll through the magnificent Forbidden City, including the largest imperial palace with a historical significance going back over 600 years. In the afternoon, Beijing’s key landmark, the 15th century Temple of Heaven will allow you step back and admire the exquisite craftmanship. This will be followed by a welcome banquet at the coveted Peking Duck Restaurant of Quanjude which offers guests the opportunity to savour some of the most delicious and authentic foods China has to offer. |
| The first sight of the day is a must-see - the Great Wall of China, which was built over 2,000 years ago, stretches about 4000 miles and still draws thousands of tourists to the site every day. Upon arriving at the Badaling section of the Wall, the whole group will be divided into smaller groups, and will be set off on a race to climb to the top, with prizes and bragging rights on offer, it is often a highlight of the trip. After the picnic in the local town, we will return to the city. This will be followed by a second banquet-dinner later in the evening, at a exquisite Mongolian restaurant. |
| On day 4 your group will transfer to the airport for your flight to cosmopolitan Shanghai, one of the great seaports of the world. After arriving you will be given a short tour of Shanghai which will show you Shanghai’s unique attractions, including the waterfront Bund, the crowded Nanjing Road, the beautiful Yu Garden and the bustling Yuyuan Market. Dinner will be a banquet held on a sunset cruise on the Huangpu River, where guests can expect a fantastic view of Shanghai of the bustling Shanghai city scape at night. |
| Experience the modern Shanghai on day 5 by visiting the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Your day will be completed with a stunning acrobatics show at the Shanghai Central Theatre. |
